This project began as something small and personal — creating a logo for my 10-year-old son, Thurston and quickly became one of the most meaningful design moments.
Thurston received a 3D printer for Christmas and instantly dove into the world of printing, downloading templates, testing materials, and eventually selling his creations to friends at school. His enthusiasm and budding entrepreneurial spirit inspired me to support his new venture by designing a brand identity he could be proud of.

Design Direction
The goal was to keep the logo simple, bold, and versatile — something Thurston could apply to prints, stickers, apparel, or even packaging if his business grows. The core idea centered around a mark that felt modern and relevant to 3D printing, while still feeling fun and personal.
Concept & Tone
The final logo features a custom “3D” monogram with meaningful detail:
The negative space between the 3 and D, combined with the pointed end in the middle of the “3,” creates the shape of a printer nozzle — a subtle nod to the tool at the heart of his process.
The overall shape of the mark also mirrors the silhouette of his actual 3D printer, grounding the design in something tangible and familiar.
